02/08: 2nd August 2008: First Blog
My Blog Introduction.
Hi, as one of the web designers for this website I have been asked to write a regular blog. I will be attempting to do this on weekly basis and will try and document any website progress in the previous week or forthcoming week, a rundown of events coming up and summary of surf conditions.
The Website
We're almost there on the website now and should be adding several more boards to our collection, which will mostly be from the Chris Diplock collection.
Payment wise you can use PayPal Payments, we unfortunatly had to pull the plug on Google Checkout for the moment as order placement has not been sending us confirmation, hopefully this will be sorted shortly.
The Surf

Wednesday the 24th July we awoke to the kind of day we all dream about, and there was a huge early morning contigent to show for it. Suprisingly no one bothered the next morning even though it was still a lot of fun on set waves with a shortboard and most definatley would have been an excellent wave for longboarders. I can only guess you were all worn out from long sessions the day before, otherwise an investment for a longboard may be the way to go.
Sunday morning threw up one of those days when the waves were much better than it looked on the forecast with clean 3ft set waves rolling in. And the weather was so nice it may have been just possible to venture in with just boardies on, though I opted for a shorty. There won¡¦t be many days like that this year ƒ¼
Although on Monday the surf had reduced to a weak foot and a half, I still went in as I recieved my new board designed by Chris Diplock. My board of choice I had been riding prior to this is a 6¡¦4 3 fin thruster, which does what I want it to in around 4ft- 7ft waves and I am aware that at other times I am not surfing to my optimum. So on my board wish list was to have a board for the summer that is a bit shorter and that I can get some big hacks in on and fins out on the right waves.
My first day in on a new board and a important lesson was learnt. And that was to make sure to put tail pad on. Until riding without one I didn't realise how much I use it to put extra power into bottom turns and pushing off the lip.
Conditions wise it wasn¡¦t a great day as it was only a foot or so big at Polzeath and a little weak; Borderline conditions for this board, I¡¦d expect it may well perform at this size if it was a punchier break, however on some waves I could definatley feel the potential of the board.
My next opportunity was Friday evening and the surf although fairly choppy on set waves were a good 3ft with a half decent clean face. It only took a couple of waves at this sort of size for me to come to the conclusion that ¡§I LOVE THIS BOARD¡¨. Losing a couple of inch¡¦s off the board will no doubt make the paddle a little harder, and catching waves a little more difficult also but once up and running this thing flys. On shaping the board for me I¡¦d explained to Bro (Chris Diplock collection)my surfing style what I wanted it to do, how I surfed and in what conditions I¡¦d be using the board etc. The board he made me as well as other things was shortend and had more curvature. On the waves I caught in this session I got a glimpse of the extra speed I could get quickly off a good bottom turn and it really gave me some lift in my snaps ( I still need to get that tail pad sorted though. ) Other than that my speed and turns were much improved on my back hand also.
Surfing things to do out of the sea
I've just grabbed a copy of Wavelength Magazine with the free MVPII DVD, so that's sure to cheer me up on a day the surf's not good enough. And for the other days the WCT Ripcurl Search which kicked off a few days ago is bound to epic, with Kelly Slater going out yesterday to Tiago Pires, the others of the tour will be looking to make some ground. This Monday will see the start of Ripcurl WQS event in Newquay and for once it looks like there might be a decent amount of swell, let’s hope some of the British boys can go a little further this year as the last couple of years ther’es been quite a few 1st round exists. Russell Winter is back after his wrist injury with a win at Surfstock last week so hopefully he can return to some of his former form before previous injuries.
